Reginald E. Patria, 89, formerly of 164 Champagne Rd. in Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Legend Healthcare in Gardner after a lengthy illness.
Reggie was born in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire on September 17, 1920 and lived in Winchendon before moving to Gardner over 50 years ago. He was predeceased by two wives; Rose (Janssens) Patria and Marjorie (Crossley) Patria.
Prior to his retirement in 1985, Reggie was employed with the former Ethan Allen Co. During World War II, he served our country in the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1946. Reggie was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner and the Chestnut Street Methodist Church in Gardner. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and dancing, flower gardening and bird watching. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan, following the Boston Celtics and New England Patriots faithfully. During his younger days, Reggie enjoyed boxing and is remembered as being a quite good at the sport.
Reggie will be sadly missed by his son; James R. Patria of Baldwinville, his daughter; Jane I. Parmenter of Athol, his stepson; Gerald Charland and his wife Cheryl of Westminster, two step-daughters; Norma Marion and her husband Richard of Gardner and Susan Bettez, five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Reggie's life by gathering for his funeral service in LAMOUREUX-FLETCHER COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME, 105 Central St., Gardner on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 11 AM. Rev. Cal Carpenter, Pastor of Chestnut St. United Methodist Church in Gardner, will officiate. A calling hour at the funeral home will precede the service from 10 -11 AM Thursday. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner.
