William T. Walters, 94, of Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday evening March 2, 2010 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home after an illness.
William was born in Astoria, NY November 17, 1915, son of the late Charles and Ernestine (Repp) Walters, and has lived in Gardner most of his life. His beloved wife Bernice (Hubbard) Walters died in 1967.
Prior to his retirement in the mid 70's, William was employed with the former Gardner Machine Works as tool and die maker. William was extremely passionate about his home and property. He dedicated many hours to working on both. He also was an accomplished gardener. He loved sharing what he grew with his friends and family.
William will be sadly missed by two sons; Donald P. Walters of Loveland, CO, and David W. Walters of Gardner, one daughter; Virginia L. Walters of Gardner, two grandchildren; Gretchen of Colorado, and Jeremy Walters of Fitchburg, 2 great-grandchildren; Jacob Walters of Fitchburg, and Sage Walters of Fitchburg, one sister; Dorothy DeGrace of Gardner, and several nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by one sister Martha Katsouris.
At the request of the family funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Burial in Greenbower Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in William's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, because that was a charity both William and his family were passionate about.
