Richard F. Gould, 79, a longtime resident of Ashburnham, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, February 27, 2010.

Richard was born in Fitchburg on May 2, 1930, son of the late William H. and Ingrid Ilmi (Sulin) Gould. He attended Fitchburg schools and lived in Ashburnham for most of his life. His beloved wife, Jetta L. (LaFortune) Gould, died in 1998.

Richard served our country during the Korean War. He was a Corporal in the United States Army and was a member of the 28th Infantry in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked for several paper mills in Fitchburg, retiring from the James River Co. in 1992 after 35 years of service.

Richard was an active communicant of both St. Denis and St. Anne's Churches in Ashburnham. He was also an active member of the Thomas P. Sweeney Post 142, American Legion of Ashburnham. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, swimming and above all else, spending time with his family.

He will be sadly missed by his five sons; Richard F. Gould and his wife Becki of Ashburnham, William H. Gould of East Sandwich, Timothy J. Gould and his wife Kim of Athol, Jason M. Gould and his wife Madeline of Templeton and Derek S. Gould and his wife Yi-Hui of Hubbardston. He also leaves nine grandchildren; Nicole, Ben, Ellery, Leslie, Zack, Madison, Mason, Hayden and Hana. He was predeceased by one daughter; Cynthia Gould of Gardner who died in 1979, his brother and sister; Robert and Dorothy and his daughter-in-law; Elizabeth Gould of East Sandwich who died October 24 of last year.

Family and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Richard's life by gathering for his visiting hours in the Lamoureux-Fletcher Community Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 5-7 pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anne's Church, South Ashburnham on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 11AM. Rev. John E. Horgan will officiate. Please note that there will be no procession from the funeral home to the church on Thursday morning. Burial in New Cemetery, Ashburnham will take place in the spring.
