Dorothy L. (Reed) Fontaine, 88, of Baldwinville, died peacefully early Monday morning January 25, 2010 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home.
Dorothy was born in New Ipswich, NH, September 11, 1921, daughter of the late George and Ethel (Knowlton) Reed, and has lived in Baldwinville most of her life. Her beloved husband of 50 years Wilfred E. Fontaine died in 1998.
Dorothy was a 1940 Graduate of the former Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing. Prior to her retirement in 1974, she worked as a surgical nurse with Heywood Hospital. She served as chairman of the Board of Appeals in Templeton for 10 years. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Martin's Church in Otter River. She enjoyed painting, writing poetry, writing stories, and many years camping with her family and friends.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by 3 sons; Wayne E. Fontaine and his wife Cindy of Baldwinville, Joseph M. Fontaine of Swanzey, NH, and Bruce R. Fontaine and his wife Janette of Baldwinville, two daughters; Sherry A. Fontaine and her significant other Charles Vogel of Baldwinville, and Kathy F. Hayn of Beckett, MA, eight grandchildren; Jason, Chad, Jed, Matt, Jessica, Michael, Laura, and Wayne, three step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Dorothy's life by gathering in the Lamoureux-Fletcher Community 105 Central St., Gardner, MA, on Saturday January 30, 2010 at 10AM. Her funeral mass will be held in St. Martin's Church, 248 State Rd. Otter River, MA at 11AM. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Winchendon, at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Templeton Council on Aging, 135 Patriots Rd. East Templeton, MA 01468
